Palmer Point Park                                                       Next Project

Palmer Point Park
(Client: Sarasota County Environmental Services)

Palmer Point Park is owned by Sarasota County and adjacent to the historic Midnight Pass. The southeastern portion of the park was once used as a spoil disposal site by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) for the construction of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. Subsequently, this spoil disposal site was identified by the USACE as an area in need of environmental restoration. The project entails removal of the spoil material and the planting of mangroves to restore historical

wetlands. The Project Area is identified as the southeastern section of Palmer Point Park, approximately 5 acres in size, on North Casey Key, Sarasota County, Florida. Coastal Tech has performed field investigations to characterize the existing conditions and is now gathering input from the residents and stakeholders to develop a restoration design that will have the support of the general public. Construction is anticipated to begin in the Spring of 2009.
